The Enmax Conservatory was an ambitious renovation project located in the heart of the Calgary Zoo. Construction included the use of five alternative energy technologies, which now supplement the electricity supply for the conservatory and hot water for internal use.
It is the client’s hope that by understanding how plants and animals function, visitors can learn much about alternative energy technologies such as solar thermal and solar photo voltaic (PV) panels, wind power and cogeneration systems.
One of the most energy-efficient greenhouses in the world, it’s the first building of its kind in North America to achieve this level of certification and exemplify sustainable operation, design and construction.
