CN’s Vancouver Intermodal yard in Vancouver, was relying on expensive diesel generators to supply power to the air-conditioning units in their shipping containers. To eliminate the need for the diesel generators, Ledcor installed eight multiple power stations designed to reduce costs and improve power efficiency.
Operating at 480 volts, the outlets could easily be connected to the shipping containers by CN staff, eliminating the need for an external contractor. The project included a 480V switchboard (providing utility metering and power distribution), 1 MVA, 25 kV-480Y/277 substation, and a 600 volt buried cable. We were able to install this system without interfering with the operations of the intermodal yard.
