As Construction Manager, Ledcor conducted extensive pre-construction on this project, developing and implementing the project schedule, identifying long-lead procurement items, producing tender packages and recommendations of award, and finalizing the budget for Finning’s approval.
The large-scale truck maintenance facility includes 16 service bays, a wash bay, 9144 m2 (30,000 ft2 ) of office space, a 350-person change room, a fueling station, and a warehouse. It also includes a sophisticated lube and exhaust system and high-speed rubber rolling doors. Floor slabs measure half a metre 20 inches thick to accommodate the heavy haul and track equipment. There are four 50-ton, six 20-ton, six 30-ton, and sixteen 5-ton cranes suspended within the facility.
Extensive use of continuous flight auger piles were used to stabilize the foundation. The exterior of the building is finished with insulated metal cladding roof and wall systems.
Being in a remote, northern location, this fast-tracked project required efficient project management and coordination of consultants and trades. This project was completed on schedule and on budget during an active construction market in the Fort McMurray region.
