  1. Willow Creek Mine

Kearl, located 70 km (43.5 miles) north of Fort McMurray and jointly owned by Imperial and ExxonMobil Canada, is one of Canada’s highest-quality oil sands deposits. It has an estimated 4.6 billion barrels of recoverable bitumen resource.

The Kearl Expansion Project Hydrotransport (HT) and Ore Preparation Plant (OPP) module assembly started in April 2013 and was completed in August 2014. The $60 million project was completed with 146,000 hours and its scope included the supply and fabrication of 30 modules as well as miscellaneous interconnecting off-module structure steel and piping.

The 30 modules consist of:

  • Hydrotransport pumphouses
  •  E-houses/VFD buildings
  •  Piperack modules
  •  Water blending modules to mix hot and cold water
  •  Wet-side electrical substations
  •  Dry-side electrical substations
  •  Caustic pumphouses
  •  Glandwater pumphouses
