By 2030, Canada will need over 300,000 new skilled workers. The solution? Investing in the future—today.

Canada is facing a critical shortage of skilled workers, and the solution includes modernization and expansion of post-secondary skills training facilities. Equipped with the latest technologies, these schools prepare students for real-world jobs, connect them to local industries, and support lifelong learning through upskilling.

At Ledcor, we proactively partner with our post-secondary clients to address this need. Beyond constructing the physical buildings, we provide scholarships, work placements, and training opportunities. Projects like our student housing developments at SFU and BCIT also help by expanding access to education and reducing financial barriers.

Building the foundation: Ledcor’s post-secondary skills training facilities

Across Canada, Ledcor has built a diverse portfolio of post-secondary facilities, each tailored to meet evolving educational and workforce needs.

  • In Alberta, Lakeland College and MacEwan University’s School of Business are projects currently underway that emphasize adaptive flexibility, sustainability, and connectivity.
  • Northern Lights College Trades Training Centre in Dawson Creek, British Columbia is a LEED Gold-certified mass timber facility that expanded training capacity by 96 students, improving access for trades students in northern British Columbia.
  • Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey, British Columbia is a LEED Gold building that blends theory with hands-on training, supporting SkilledTradesBC-endorsed programs that channel students into high-demand careers.
  • Nicola Valley Institute of Technology’s Centre of Excellence in Sustainability in Merritt, British Columbia integrates sustainability with academic, technical, and recreational spaces through a facility that includes a gymnasium, clean-energy lab, greenhouse, and commercial kitchen.
  • The Case Goods Warehouse & Cannery project in Toronto, Ontario transformed the historic warehouse into a modern campus for Collège Boréal, with high-tech labs and collaborative spaces, showcasing adaptive reuse in urban education.

Each project is more than a building. They expand access, improve capacity, and create engaging learning environments that prepare students for modern careers.
