Ledcor is proud to have raised a cumulative total of over $40,000 in employee donations and corporate matching in both Canada and the United States for the annual Movember campaign, an initiative started by The Movember Foundation. Throughout the month of November, employees raised awareness and funds for some of the greatest health issues faced by men today, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.
Led by Mark Houghton, Chief Operating Officer of Ledcor's Marine Division as well as Executive Sponsor of the Ledcor Movember Campaign, Ledcor employees from different offices took part as individuals or in teams. To start a conversation about men's health, employees grew their moustaches into walking, talking billboards for men's health, or participated in MOVE, a 30-day physical fitness challenge. Both Mo Bros and Mo Sistas can choose to take a 30-minute walk to work, play a game of table tennis or go on an epic bike ride.
This year, employees formed four teams: MOVA Men, Ledcor Foundation, Ledcor Top Lips, and Ledcor Toronto. Ledcor Foundation raised $12,600 including corporate match and is the top fundraising team at Ledcor. Doug Drinkwater from Ledcor's Marine division raised the most individually with over $9,000 including corporate match and garnered coverage from large news stations like Global TV and Metro Vancouver News—well deserved recognition after waxing a moustache on his chest.
The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living happier, healthier, longer lives. Since 2003, millions have joined the men's health movement, raising $677 million and funding over 1,000 projects. The 2015 Movember campaign in Canada finished in second place globally, raising a total of over $14.3 million. Funds will be allocated towards supporting prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and fitness programs in partnership with Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC) and Movember Foundation.
