Ledcor Lends Heavy Equipment Valued at Over $25,000 to Women Building Futures

Ledcor is proud to support women in construction by loaning over $25,000 worth of heavy equipment to Women Building Futures’ (WBF) Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) programs.

WBF offers women pre-trades competency-based training in welding, steamfitting/pipefitting, plumbing, sheet metal, carpentry, electrical, and heavy equipment operator training at their training centre in Edmonton. WBF has quickly become the go-to place for workforce development partnerships with any industry wishing to diversify their workforce.

Since 2013, WBF has graduated 98 women from its HEO programs with an employment success rate of 90 percent and an average increase in income of approximately 160 percent. Ledcor joins other well-known and respected companies such as Imperial, Suncor, Emeco, Mammoet, SureHire, Lehigh Hanson, and Finning in supporting the WBF HEO program by providing them with access to services and resources.

“Since first being offered in 2009, the WBF Heavy Equipment Operator Program has continued to generate incredible interest from women seeking to enter the industry, as well as the employers seeking to hire them. With Ledcor’s continued support, along with our other industry partners, this program will continue that success for many years to come,” said JudyLynn Archer, President and CEO of Women Building Futures.

The use of a D5 Dozer from Ledcor has enabled WBF to offer women in this program the experience of hands-on training on equipment that they are likely to use in their new occupations. With similar in-kind donations from generous donors playing a significant role in the success of the WBF HEO program, women can receive the skills and experience needed to pursue their careers in construction.
