In a push to improve broadband access across the state, the Illinois Department of Central Management Services is partnering with local organizations to install and upgrade fiber optic cables in 55 rural and under-serviced counties.
More than 400 community anchors—including education, healthcare, government and public safety institutions—will be directly connected with over 3,200 kilometers (2,000 miles) of new or upgraded fiber.
Ledcor’s portion of the build includes six distinct projects, totalling around 530 kilometers (330 miles) of construction. We will also be installing and testing at anchor institutions.
The new fiber backbone will support speeds of up to 1.6 terabits per second—hundreds of times faster than the current network.
These projects are expected to employ up to 100 people from local communities.
