Boston Bar - Standby Power System
CN – Canadian National Railway Company
Boston Bar, British Columbia
The Boston Bar CN man camp and works yard was experiencing a great deal of down time due to frequent power outages in the Boston Bar power grid, affecting train movements and staff working at the yard. To mitigate these issues, Ledcor designed and installed a fully automated standby power system for the facility which would start immediately upon normal power loss.
UPS power supplies were installed at each computer station to ensure seamless power transition to the standby power. Upon restoration of the normal power, the standby system would automatically switch back to the normal supply and shut down the diesel generator.
Two diesel generators were installed at this location to accommodate the two different voltage systems at the site - namely 208Y/120 volt three-phase and 120/240 volt single-phase.
