Ledcor was contracted to build a wastewater treatment plant and cofferdam in Fort Hills. For the plant, we installed 469 12-inch H-piles. To achieve the required length for the piles, Ledcor’s welders spliced approximately 50 percent of them.
The cofferdam design involved multiple sheet pile cells, which required 28,000 m
3 (989,000 ft
3) of excavation and 33,000 m
3 (1.2 million ft
3) of concrete placement. Ledcor’s scope also included 16,000 lineal meters of pre-drilling, which assisted in the advancement of the sheet piles into Fort McMurray’s geological terrain.
