Plant and Cofferdam

Fort Hills Energy, L.P.

Fort Hills, Alberta

Ledcor was contracted to build a wastewater treatment plant and cofferdam in Fort Hills. For the plant, we installed 469 12-inch H-piles. To achieve the required length for the piles, Ledcor’s welders spliced approximately 50 percent of them.

The cofferdam design involved multiple sheet pile cells, which required 28,000 m3 (989,000 ft3) of excavation and 33,000 m3 (1.2 million ft3) of concrete placement. Ledcor’s scope also included 16,000 lineal meters of pre-drilling, which assisted in the advancement of the sheet piles into Fort McMurray’s geological terrain.
