Construction is currently underway for the Canary District, home of the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Athletes’ Village development, which will utilize 14 hectares (35 acres) of an undeveloped section of West Don Lands. Ledcor formed a joint venture with EllisDon to construct the new facility, designed by an Integrated Design team. True to Ledcor’s beliefs in sustainability and social responsibility, the project is being built to LEED
® Gold standards and is expected to generate and support 5,200 jobs, 700 of which are in construction.
The project will house 10,000 athletes during the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. After The Games, the area will be transformed into a beautiful and sustainable mixed-use community called the
Canary District. It will feature residential condominiums, affordable housing, George Brown College’s first student residence, and a new YMCA, as well as plenty of retail and restaurant space.
