Completed in less than one year for the Greater Toronto Airport Authority, the 32,000 m2 (342,000 ft2) FedEx Sorting Facility earned the 2000 NAIOP Industrial Project of the Year, for innovative design and outstanding project design.
The $50 million project was completed on time and on budget and consisted of the construction and development of the main sorting facility, security building, pedestrian bridge, and GSE – a multi-purpose building used for storage and aircraft maintenance. The project scope also included all supporting site work such as landscaping, aircraft apron construction, a staging area for 21 trailers, staff parking, and an aircraft ramp able to accommodate as many as nine wide-body aircraft at one time.
