Guildford Town Centre Expansion

Ivanhoé Cambridge

Surrey, British Columbia

This two-phase project for repeat client Ivanhoé Cambridge involved a complete $280-million expansion and redevelopment of the existing Guildford Town Centre, all while the facility remained operational.

The mall is one of Metro Vancouver’s largest shopping centres. In addition to 75 new stores and a new Walmart Supercenter, the project included a 965-seat food court complemented by several restaurants, as well as new escalators, elevators, and updated décor, including one of the largest greenwalls in Canada.

The expansion area completed in Phase 2 was awarded LEED® Gold certification. Throughout the project, Ledcor took full advantage of recycled and locally sourced construction materials, and about 80 percent of the construction waste was diverted for recycling. Thanks to upgraded systems throughout, the mall is expecting to reduce its energy use by 64 percent and water use by 40 percent. There will also be dedicated bicycle storage and charging stations for electric vehicles.

Guildford Town Centre won a 2015 ICSC Maple Leaf Gold Medal Award in the Development & Design Category for Renovations/Expansions.
