Designed for the emerging digital media and creative sector, 565 Great Northern Way features 160,000 sq. ft. (14,864 sq. m.) of office space distributed over seven storeys. It also includes a distinct 2,000 sq. ft. (185 sq. m.) retail pavilion that will provide food & beverage services for the rapidly growing creative precinct.
Located adjacent to the new Emily Carr University of Arts and Design and the Centre for Digital Media, the building is designed to LEED® Gold and includes a public plaza and pedestrian connection integrated with the university and the future rapid transit station.
Great Northern Way incorporates a green roof to capture rainwater, high performance glazing, energy efficient lighting, irrigation systems, integrated storm water management, and solar shading.
The new office building has high quality fitness and bicycle end-of-trip facilities, as it is prominently located on the Central Valley Greenway. It will feature three levels of underground parking accommodating 474 parking stall, multiple patios, and a large rooftop deck with panoramic views of downtown Vancouver and the North Shore Mountains. The office building was completed in spring 2018 and the retail pavilion will be complete in the fall 2018.
This building was constructed concurrently with Emily Carr University and to support the University’s occupancy it was necessary for the public realm portion of the 565 Great Northern Way to be completed early. The safe and successful execution of both these projects required detailed planning, consistent communication and coordination of many work activities. In addition to constructing an iconic building the project team developed exceptional relationships and set the standard for coordination in a busy market where separated but adjoining construction projects are becoming the norm.
