Ashlu Creek Green Power Project
Innergex Renewable Energy
Squamish, British Columbia
Since British Columbia updated its energy policy in 2002, Ledcor has been actively developing and constructing run-of-river projects. One of these projects, the Ashlu Creek Green Power Project, commenced commercial operations early in December 2009.
This 49-Megawatt run-of-river hydroelectric project reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions equivalent to removing 21,000 cars from the road each year while producing 230 GWh of electricity - enough to power 23,000 homes each year. Ledcor constructed the water intake structure, diversion channel, electrical switchyard platforms, and powerhouse.
Run-of-river projects require little water storage to generate electricity and emit virtually no GHGs, with the energy produced coming from naturally flowing mountain waters.
