The Snap Lake project is located on the tundra, 220 air kilometers (136 miles) northeast of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
Ledcor was successful in overcoming the logistical challenge of arctic conditions and ice roads by which the project site was only accessible.
Upon completion of the surface facilities in 2007, the project became De Beers' Canadian flagship diamond mine and Canada's first underground diamond mine.
Ledcor's primary scope of work was constructing all surface facilities, including the main processing building. This work also included start-up assistance for all mine surface facilities and an extensive winter works program.
The project was completed on schedule, with the first diamonds being processed seven days ahead of the aggressive construction schedule.
