UBC Old Auditorium

Built in 1925, the Old Auditorium is one of University of British Columbia's (UBC) oldest buildings on campus, and one of several projects Ledcor has completed at UBC.

The project consisted of a complete structural overhaul, including seismic upgrades and hazardous materials removal, as well as extensive technical and mechanical upgrades.

Project Highlights

  • New sound system and lighting
  • New fly tower system to properly display opera and theatre sets, and new “back-of-house” area
  • 534 seats with a dual-purpose use for lectures and theatre performance
  • 60 seat orchestra pit
  • New lobby, including box office, coat check, concession services, and other amenities
  • Three new rehearsal halls
  • Updated green room and ensemble dressing rooms
  • New costume storage area created by the excavation of the crawl space
