Porta d'Italia Apartments
Sandcor Harborside LLC
San Diego, California
Built in the heart of the “Little Italy” district, Porta d’Italia consists of 184 units in two mid-rise wood frame buildings built on a podium deck, offering studio, one, and two bedroom apartment homes. The overall project is over two city blocks, separated by a busy corridor.
The close proximity to the San Diego International Airport necessitated FAA approval for the tower cranes. Restricted staging areas and traffic control also provided a few unique safety issues. Encroachment restrictions on city property resulted in Ledcor proposing a fiberglass shoring system, the first project in San Diego County to use this system, which saved both time and money.
With innovative planning and construction, Porta d’Italia came in six weeks ahead of schedule and one million dollars under budget.
