Client: Provincial Health Services Authority
Location: Vancouver, BC
With the official opening of the Teck Acute Care Centre last October, the BC Children’s Hospital launched a new era of child health.
The LEED®-Gold Teck Acute Care Centre project, led by Ledcor and Balfour Beatty through an Affinity Partnership consortium and through public-private partnership (P3), was a much needed eight-storey addition to the urban campus of the BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre.
To optimize patient comfort and care, every detail of the design-build was taken into consideration. The location of the building is centrally located within the campus, so that patients and staff can easily move across various departments. It includes a brand-new emergency department, complete with interactive virtual screens designed to provide comfort and inspiration to children and their families during their stay.
Upgrades also include 231 private inpatient rooms, a neonatal intensive care unit, transfusion medicine, medical imaging and much more.
Additionally, each area of the building is modelled after a different part of BC and was constructed with the utmost care and with an extraordinary attention to detail so that children, women, and their families can feel fully at home and cared for.
Other features include:
- Spacious, private single-patient rooms with space for family member or support person to stay.
- New space for: Emergency, Medical Imaging, Procedures Suites, Neonatal ICU (NICU) and Pediatric ICU (PICU), Renal Dialysis, High-Risk Labour and Delivery, Medical and Surgical Inpatient Units, Oncology/Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplant Program, Anesthetic Care Unit, Milk Handling Room and Transfusion Medicine.
