On Friday, November 16th, 2012 at the Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association (ARHCA) Annual Convention in Banff, Alberta, longtime Ledcor employee Tom Brown, Senior Vice President, Ledcor CMI, was presented with the ARHCA Honorary Lifetime Membership Award. This award is given to individuals who are stewards of the community, have demonstrated leadership, and have dedicated their lives and careers to the promotion, growth and sustainability of the road building and heavy construction industry. Tom was nominated by Gary Mayhew, General Manager of Ledcor’s Highway Maintenance Division.
As a Civil Engineering graduate from the University of Alberta in 1971, Tom spent his entire career in the road building and heavy construction industry. Tom joined Ledcor in 1989.
During Tom’s career he devoted much of his time to industry associations and served as chair of several associations, including ARHCA, the Western Canada Roadbuilders Association, the Canadian Construction Association, and the Alberta Construction Safety Association. He also served on the board of the Construction Sector Council, and continues to serve as a member of the board for the Alberta Economic Development Authority. Tom also graciously volunteered his time for ten years as an account executive during Ledcor’s annual United Way fundraising campaigns.
The presentation to Tom consisted of a speech and award by Gary Mayhew, followed by a video commissioned by the ARHCA. The video is a testament to Tom’s career and provides remarkable insight into his character, given by people that knew and worked with him. Watch the video
