Celebrating 29 Years of Support for BC Children's Hospital

BC Children's Hospital is the province's only full-service acute care hospital that serves the one million children living in BC and the Yukon. Children’s Hospital provides care for the most seriously ill or injured children and youth, and is also a leading teaching and research facility. All children who are referred to Children's Hospital are either treated at the hospital facility in Vancouver, or in their home community in consultation with Children's specialists.

Ledcor has been a proud supporter of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation since 1988 - a total of 28 years - with 2016’s Miracle Weekend telethon in June marking Ledcor’s 29th year of giving. In this time, Ledcor has donated over $7 million to the hospital, including significant donations made by the Dave Lede Family Foundation.

The most significant contribution to BC Children’s Hospital to date is Ledcor’s 2008, $5 million commitment to support the construction of a new Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. Once the new hospital is complete, the emergency department, which receives close to 40,000 visits a year, will carry the Ledcor name.

Ledcor’s donations are a combination of corporate gifts, personal pledges, funds raised throughout the year from events such as Slo-Pitch and Jeans day, and local fundraising efforts as part of Ledcor’s annual company-wide employee campaign, Ledcor Cares. These employee funds are all corporately matched, and in June 2015, $119,095 was presented to the hospital in the 28th annual Miracle Weekend telethon.

When the facility opens in 2017, the Teck Acute Care Centre will house facilities for both the BC Children’s Hospital and the BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre.

The new eight-story care centre will house a range of pediatric and maternity units. Also included will be medical/surgical inpatient units, an emergency department, medical imaging and procedural suites, a hematology/oncology department, and a pediatric intensive care unit for BC Children’s Hospital. Furthermore, there will be a high-risk labor and delivery suite and a new neonatal intensive care unit for BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre.

BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre is the only facility in BC devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns, and families, and is one of Canada’s largest and busiest maternity hospitals.
