LEED®

For a number of years Ledcor has been on the forefront of sustainable building construction. Since that time, our employees have taken a keen interest in green technologies and in understanding the industry guidelines for what constitutes a “green building”. Numerous employees throughout our 14 offices have received their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design/LEED® Accredited Professional status. Ledcor was part of a team involved in the production of an 80-page document Green Construction – introducing Green Buildings & LEED® to Contractors. The objective was to make LEED® a part of normal business practice and this manual has been adopted by the Green Building Council for Contractors.

Our first foray into green technology began with breaking ground in 1997 (pre-LEED®) for the internationally acclaimed Revenue Canada office. This award-winning building exceeded standard building code requirements for energy conservation by as much as 30 per cent.

Gulf Island Operation Centre

LEED® Platinum building in Canada! Features of this office building include an ocean geothermal system with in slab heating, solar panel system, a rain water collection system for flushing of toilets and an extensive use of wood.

BC Cancer Research Centre

LEED® Gold: The design of this facility features a ‘gene’ component; the office windows represent Petri dishes, a spiral staircase represents a DNA helix and the laboratory floor pattern represents DNA components.

UBC Life Sciences Centre

The largest laboratory in the world to achieve LEED®  Gold! The 556,000 sf/52,165 m2 is a new medical teaching and research facility which includes a variety of laboratories, lecture theatre classrooms, seminar/reading rooms, administration offices and major vivarium.
