Community Alliances

Our Social Responsibility

To us, social responsibility means accountability to our employees, the environment and the communities that are impacted by our operations. We also involve ourselves in initiatives that add value and create opportunity for non-project specific activities. Our Community Alliances team is committed to communicating and interacting with all involved stakeholders from an established foundation of mutual respect, trust and cooperation. Overall, we work to support the ‘how’ of establishing, maintaining and developing relationships with diverse communities to create value and opportunity.

Our History

For 60 years, building, maintaining and evolving relationships with diverse communities has been an integral part of our ongoing operations. With numerous diverse communities within our project areas, it was Ledcor’s goal to establish an innovative project approach that would involve communities, companies and contractors.

Our Future

As a recognized leader in the construction industry, we are focused on the social and economic realities of diverse communities. We recognize the importance of cultivating long-term relationships that are based on mutual respect, trust and cooperation. All Ledcor employees have a responsibility to build, maintain and evolve relationships with the diverse communities where we do business.

Our Initiatives and Involvement

Community Alliances provides a support service that delivers the guidance required to confidently manage diverse community relationships. Our Community Alliances Manager provides the internal and external interface for community relation issues including site-specific information, interaction and communication necessary to develop social, economic and educational opportunities. In certain circumstances, a Community Alliances Liaison is used as a dedicated resource to manage project specific relationships.

Aboriginal Awareness and Aboriginal Cultural training is available to all Ledcor employees. These training programs help to ensure that Ledcor employees have the knowledge and the skills necessary to manage diverse community relationships.

A sample of our project specific diverse community involvement includes:

  • Employment and apprenticeships;
  • Training and development;
  • Joint development projects; and
  • Long-term partnerships and agreements.

Sustainable Construction Activities
At Ledcor, we are committed to making a positive contribution towards sustainable construction activities through embracing our share of the joint responsibility with all project legitimate interested parties. The Ledcor Community Alliances team pursues opportunities to enhance social and economic benefits through an established and forward thinking Opportunity Statement:

“It is our intention to develop and nurture every possible opportunity for local and Aboriginal workers, suppliers and subcontractors. Where a choice exists between Local/Aboriginal and Non-Local workers, suppliers and subcontractors, providing there is no compromise to cost and quality, the Local/Aboriginal workers, suppliers and subcontractors will be given preferential treatment.”

We always endeavor to maintain a consistent project specific minimum policy program to ensure the success of establishing, maintaining and developing relationships with diverse communities and interest groups – resulting in sustainable construction activities.
